Yao Ming May Quit If Foot Feels Shady
Houston Rocket All-Star center Yao Ming is thinking about shutting it down…permanently. After missing last season with a foot injury, Ming told the Xinhua News Agency that doubts he will play in the 2012 Olympics, and is thinking about retiring from the NBA. Yao is entering his 8th season in the League and at only 29 years old, a decision to hang up the jersey may be a little premature.
The Rockets are confident that Yao will be able to make a strong return this season, despite his remarks to the contrary. While the team is concerned about the health of their once franchise center, they are only on the hook to pay Yao a shade under $18 mil next season and then his is a free agent.
Not too bad of a bill to foot (no pun intended) if Yao has to tap out.
Yao also took a jab at Chinese basketball officials, saying they were too focused on the Bejing Olympics and neglected developmental and professional leagues in China.
