Torrey Smith Goes HAM in Ravens-Patriots Sunday Night Game Day After Younger Brother’s Death
Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith entered Sunday Night’s showdown against the Patriots with a heavy heart–and showed what his is made of, playing just hours after learning that his younger brother, Tevin Jones, died in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening.
Upon learning the news, Smith dipped from the team hotel early Sunday morning to go be with his family, and made the difficult decision to join his football family on the gridiron in a highly-anticipated rematch of last season’s thrilling AFC Championship.
In what had to be one of the toughest games of his young career, Smith came through for the Baltimore crowd with some of that proverbial pandemic–including 6 receptions for 127 yards and 2 TD in a thrilling win for the Ravens with a game-winning field goal.
Hopefully fantasy owners were more concerned about the person than the points in this case, as it is impossible to imagine the pain and heartache that they are currently experiencing.
Smith is placing the first TD ball that he caught in his brother’s coffin to further honor his memory.
Having lost 2 brothers and having some understanding of the emotional duress that Smith was under, all(s) I can say is that his performance tonight was fucking legendary and my prayers go out to him and his family.
