Tis Tough: Bolton Midfielder Fabrice Muamba Collapses During FA Cup Quarterfinal Match vs Spurs
Some tragic news to report from London, after Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed during an FA Cup quarterfinal match against Tottenham, apparently suffering a heart attack whilst on the pitch.
Late in the first half, Muamba suddenly collapsed and laid shaking on the ground as medical personnel rushed to his aid as his Bolton teammates and Tottenham opponents looked on with concern.
Muamba was promptly rushed to the hospital, where he has been pronounced “critically ill” and placed in the heart attack unit. The match was promptly abandoned after Muamba’s collapse, with no immediate date planned to finish play.
The scene looked eerily familiar to former college basketball star Hank Gather’s collapse more than 22 years during a WCC Tournament game, as Gathers ultimately died as a result of a heart issue.
Our prayers go out Muamba and his family.
