Justifiable Caking: McCoy Proposes To Boo

After years of loving (most likely without gloving), and a professional career awaiting, former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy decided that he had everything he needed in life, except for a wife. McCoy can check that off the list. McCoy proposed to his longtime girlfriend (and fixture around these parts) Rachel Glandorf in one of the most romantic ways possible. Well, romantic in a diehard football kind of way.
McCoy took his boo to Royal Stadium, home of the Longhorns, where a sign flashed on the jumbotron saying “Will you marry me?” Pretty classy move considering that football will be dominating the couples lives for at least the next few years, as McCoy prepares to enter the NFL. But if Colt really wanted to be romantic, he would have took his boo to Universal Studios and proposed to her on the tram ride when Jaws popped out of the water. Now that will make your heart flutter.

Ewwww: Dirk Nowitzki Destroys Carl Landry’s Grill

After catching a vicious elbow for Dirk Nowitzki, shattering five of his teeth, Rockets guard Carl Landry will probably have to holler at some veneers. Both players left the game because of the incident, and Dirk had some of Landry’s teeth stuck in his elbow as a result of the play. Guaranteed Landry will be rocking a mouthpiece for the foreseeable future as a result of this grill smasing.
Colt McCoy Has Time Management Issues

Heisman finalist and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy’s argument that he was confident that there was one second remaining in his team’s Big 12 Championship win against Nebraska doesn’t seem too convincing. In this interview he did with ESPN he says he looked up at the clock and there was 11 seconds remaining, so he knew he had time to get off a play that he claims his team normally runs in 12 seconds during practice.
Sounds good except for the fact that when McCoy snapped the ball there was only a shade under 7 seconds remaining, before he scrambled towards the sideline and floated the pass out of bounds as time expired. Even if there was 11 seconds remaining like McCoy claims to have seen, running a play that normally takes a second longer in practice still would have left him a second short. Not that it matters at this point, but McCoy might as well just admit that he got luckier than Seal did when he knocked Heidi Klum.

The Real Natty Game: TCU vs Alabama
Posted by BROSEFOLOPHOGUS on
December 7, 2009

For most of the Big 12 Championship game, the legend that is Brent Musburger kept referring to the “BCS chaos” that would be created should Texas lose the game. In our minds, the element of chaos still exists because after their nasty showing against #22 Nebraska, the system needs some re-evaluation. Yes the Big 12 is the shit traditionally, but this year it is down with only 3 ranked teams at the end of the season. Texas has a great football team, but so does TCU and this year the Horned Frogs proved that they were the real deal.
Merely winning the Big 12 shouldn’t have guaranteed the Longhorns a trip to the BCS Championship. Plain and simple, Texas doesn’t deserve to go to the Natty. Even though it appears as the system got it right and put the 2 best teams in the title game, their are 4 undefeated teams left in college football and TCU and Boise State are getting shafted like that one dude in American Me, getting the consolation game in the form of the Fiesta Bowl. The meeting is a huge step for non-BCS schools, but also a pimp slap to the grill as well. The reality is that one of these 2 squads is as equally deserving a shot at Alabama as Texas.

Ghettooh: Instant Replay Makes Texas Big 12 Champs

Since everyone already knows the BCS is f*cked up like a junky on pay day, it’s a pretty sure bet that Texas will get the courtesy invite to the Natty game after their nasty 13-12 win against Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game. Texas got the win due to an extra second added to the clock after quarterback Colt McCoy decided to actually try and get a play off with about 6 seconds remaining in the game.
I do believe in the use of instant replay in helping to come to what is deemed the “right” conclusion. But in this case the ruling on the field should have stood, giving Nebraska the huge upset. McCoy’s decision to throw a floater out of bounds that took a few extra seconds to hit the ground was beyond idiotic and should not have been rewarded with an extra second to kick the game-winner. After the game McCoy claimed that he was aware of how much time was on the clock when deciding to snap the ball, but we call bullshit on that one. Generally that type of boneheadery is punishable by a loss, but the Longhorns will now have the chance to hoist the trophy in Pasadena.
But it is what it is, so for all you ‘Huskers fans out there, tis tough. Video of the controversial play after the jump…

College Football Saturday: #4 Hokies Upset

#19 Georgia Tech 28, #4 Virgina Tech 23 - The Yellow Jackets used their legendary offense to win the Tech(mo) Bowl in front of the home crowd. Georgia Tech QB (if you can call him that) Josh Nesbitt rushed for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns while only completing one pass (on 7 attempts) all game. The Yellow Jackets snapped a streak of 17 straight home losses against opponents ranked in the Top 5.
This is the second Va Tech slip up in the state of Georgia this season, losing to Alabama in their opener at the Georgia Dome. The Hokies second loss creates a logjam in the ACC Coastal division, with the 3 ranked teams (Georgia Tech, Miami, Va Tech) all with one loss and trailing Virginia for tops. Considering that Virginia still has all 3 of these squads on the schedule, it’s safe to say that the Cavaliers will lose at least 2 (if not all 3) of those games and drop from contention.
#6 USC 34, #25 Notre Dame 27 – The Trojans defense came up huge in the final moments of the game, forcing Jimmy Clausen to throw 3 incompletions in the end zone to preserve the victory. USC made it 8 straight wins against Notre Dame, but the Irish showed a lot of heart after getting absolutely smashed by the Trojans in the previous 2 seasons. Pete Carroll’s squad kept their Natty hopes alive with the win and freshman QB Matt Barkley continued his solid play, passing for 380 yards and 2 touchdowns and already getting wins at Ohio State, Cal and Notre Dame. Not too shabby young fella.
#1 Florida 23, Arkansas 20 – Urban Meyer’s squad almost tricked this one off and should suffer in the polls as a result of this close victory (just less first place votes). The Razorbacks forced 4 turnovers (all fumbles) and had an opportunity late in the game to take the lead, but kicker Alex Tejada missed a field goal, which allowed Tim Tebow and the Gators offense to march down the field and hit a field goal of their own.
Arkansas QB Ryan Mallet (Michigan transfer) looked like a pro making sharp passes en route to 224 passing yards and a TD. Tebow threw for 255 yards and a TD as well as rushing for 69 yards as the Gators extended the longest win streak in the nation to 16 games.

#20 Oklahoma vs #3 Texas (9a PT ABC) – The Red River Shootout should be as eventful as ever with last year’s Heisman Sam Bradford’s Sooners battling Colt McCoy’s Longhorns. These QB’s met last season to much fanfare with Texas pulling out the 45-35 win. This time it is McCoy who is in prime position to win the Heisman, if he can put up big numbers in the game. Oklahoma already has 2 losses this season but are undefeated in Big 12 South play (1-0) trailing Texas by one game. If the Sooners can pull off the upset they can keep a very slim hope of reaching the natty should they win out and snag the Big 12 Championship. Texas has been hitting on all cylinders this year though so Oklahoma’s chances of pulling out the win might be slim like Baby’s brother.
#4 Virginia Tech vs #19 Georgia Tech (3p PT ESPN2) – This meeting pits 2 of the most high powered offenses in the nation against each other with ACC Championship implications on the line. Va Tech has looked solid this season, defeating 2 ranked opponents (Nebraska, The U) and putting up more than 34 ppg to lead the conference. Georgia Tech’s only loss this season came against Miami and the Yellow Jackets are coming off of an impressive win at Florida State last weekend. They easily have the sickest offense in the country and need this win to create a log jam in the ACC Coastal division (once Virginia losses).
#6 USC vs #25 Notre Dame (12:30p PT NBC) – The battle of California QB’s should take center stage as Matt Barkley (Mater Dei – Santa Ana) and Jimmy Clausen (Oaks Christian – Thousand Oaks) do battle at historic Notre Dame Stadium, with the eyes of the nation watching. Both programs desperately need a victory, with the Trojans knocking right on the door of a natty berth and the Irish trying to put together one of the best seasons that they’ve had in a few years. If Charlie Weis can get this win, he will convert a lot of his critics to believers.
#22 South Carolina vs #2 Alabama (4:45p PT ESPN) – With Alabama jumping Texas after an impressive victory over Ole Miss last weekend, the Gamecocks come in with a golden opportunity to gain some ground in the SEC. But Alabama might be a little too much for South Carolina to handle as their offense (37 ppg) and defense (#2 in the nation) can both control the game.
Arkansas vs #1 Florida (12:30p PT CBS) - Urban Meyer’s squad should easily dispose of the Razorbacks, who are coming off a solid win against Auburn and rely on a solid run game to propel their offense. Unfortunately the Gators strength (of which they have many) is in their rush defense so they should be able to lock up Arkansas.
