Holler Back: Allen Iverson Announces Retirement

Share/Bookmark

TO ALL OF MY FANS:

I would like to announce my plans to retire from the National Basketball Association. I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn’t help my team the way that I was accustomed to. However, that is not the case.

I still have tremendous love for the game, the desire to play, and a whole lot left in my tank. I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level.

Stepping away from the game will allow me to spend quality time with my wife and kids. This is a reward that far exceeds anything that I’ve ever achieved on the basketball court. I have prayed for this day and I see it as my greatest gift.

I want to thank the people of Reebok International Ltd., for always allowing me to be me and for supporting me my whole career through all the ups and downs. I have enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons in the NBA, and I am grateful.

I want to first acknowledge my fans everywhere, who have been with me throughout my entire career. Without you, there would be no me. You should all know that I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

To Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, you guys gave me the vision to play the game that will be forever in my heart.

To my Mom, who encouraged and inspired me to play every day, and to all of my family and friends who stood by me from the beginning. Thank you!

To my high school coach, Michael Bailey, Coach John Thompson at Georgetown University, Coach Larry Brown and to all of my other coaches, teammates, administrators, owners and staff who’ve been a part of my career, Thank you as well!

I’d like to give a special thanks to the people of Memphis. I never played a home game for your beloved Grizzlies, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the opportunity given me by a great owner in Michael Heisley, and the support of the city. I wish the Memphis Grizzlies’ organization all of the success that the game has to offer.

And finally, to the city of Philadelphia: I have wonderful memories of my days in a Sixers’ uniform. To Philly fans, thank you. Your voice will always be music to my ears.

God Bless all of you,

ALLEN IVERSON

It’s a shame what they did to The Answer. Check out some of Iverson’s most legendary moments after the jump…

Thank Goodness De La Hoya Retired…

Share/Save/Bookmark

For a minute there our dude was giving the sport a blackeye. The last image we will have of him is him all crumpled over on the ground crying from a body shot. No Mas, no mas. And we won’t even talk about the Mayweather fight. Nor the cross-dressing pictures, which makes him legendary in the most unflattering way.

Oscar is the only none great we know to have a statue. Rocky Balboa was sicker than him and he ain’t even real. So one of the greatest, never that. We reserve that spot for Ali, Tyson, and Bernard Hopkins (yeah, Hopkins is up there).

Have A Nice Life Brett Farve :-)

Once again we are proud to announce that Brett Farve is retiring. Finally! And lets hope this time he does not try to come back with some other team. He has had a decent career, good enough to have him considered top five QB’s dead or alive without much of an argument. Meaning he’ll make the Hall of Fame the first year he is eligible. But, he will probs be knocked out of the top five and forgotten once Peyton, Brady, and Big Ben retire.

Steve Francis Heartbroken Cuttino Forced to Retire

We were looking for a picture of Cuttino Mobley with a girl, but could not find one, so we just put up this one of him and his partner Steve Francis. But, we have some sad news for a couple people out there….Cuttino Mobley is retiring due to health concerns. Awwwww.

Diagnosed with the same condition, the genetic heart disease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, that contributed to the Legend Hank Gathers’ death in 1990, the 33 year old Mobley must hang it up. Having just been traded from the Clippers to the Knicks, the Knicks are the ones that cautioned Mobley on continuing to play. So either they did not want to sign him or they were really looking out.

Cuttino was a solid player. 16 points a game for his career, thats not too bad. But, he will forever be remembered for getting his house robbed of $500,000 in cash and Steve Francis’s jewelry. Hmmmmm. Steve Francis. I think we will hear from Mobley again, maybe next year on October 11th.

Greg Maddux…You Will Be Missed

Farewell to the man who taught everyone that, “chicks dig the long ball”. LOL. Our dude Greg Maddux. This living legend retired yesterday due to old age. Having 355 total career wins which places him first among living people, his name shall be remembered for at least a century.

This guy who pitched during the heyday of the steroids era, where batters where juicing more than the infomercial legend Jack LaLanne – he still managed to earn 4 Cy Young’s, 18 Gold Gloves, and a 3.16 career ERA. We tip our hat to you Maddux and people will definitely be watching less baseball games because of your departure.

Retire In Peace, White Chocolate

Jason Williams (1998 – 2008)

Teams: Kings, Grizzlies, Heat

Jason Williams, he will be forever known as “White Chocolate” to many. From the first moment he stepped into the NBA he was a star. Williams just did things differently – with an excitement and flair that we had not seen since, well ever. Older people might liken him to Pistol Pete, but he was Pistol Pete with soul. He will always be remembered for his days as a Sacramento King – bouncing around the court, dazzling defenders and fans alike with his behind the back and no look passes. And who can forget the Gary Payton crossover, LOL.
