NCAA Football Rankings: No Major Shakeups

Share/Save/Bookmark

There were no major changes in both the USA Today and AP Polls this week as both Florida and Texas had a bye and the only teams they played anybody notable were #4 LSU (defeated Georiga), #7 USC (defeated Cal) and #11 Miami, who knocked Oklahoma out of the Top 10 with their home win. Boise State dropped down a spot after their blowout of UC Davis, which probably shouldn’t even be counted as a real game.

We are rolling with the USA Today Poll this week, because as usual, our allegiance lies with whoever gives Florida that most 1st place votes. Even though Tebow’s concussion may prove to be a factor in the Gators matchup with at LSU this weekend, they are still the sickest and the bye week should help them recover from the flu bug the was plaguing the team.

NCAA Football Rankings: Gators Still The ‘Ish

This week our allegiance has shifted to the USA Today poll because Florida has the most first place votes. The Gators battled a illness and and a Tebow concussion and still managed to smash Kentucky. They are still far and away the best team in college football.

Both polls have the same top 9 teams but the AP decided to put Cincy in the mix while USA Today was rolling with TCU. We think both those teams are kind of boo boo but have the potential to stick around based on wack schedules for the remainder of the season.

Virginia Tech jumped 5 spots to #6 after smashing the U 31-7 at home. The U got dropped all the way to #17, but has a chance for redemption as they get #8 Oklahoma and the possible return of Sam Bradford, this weekend.

Even though LSU and Boise State both won they each got moved up by default, with 4 top 10 teams losing this past week. Va Tech should have easily jumped both of these teams considering they handled a much tougher opponent. LSU almost lost at Mississippi State and Boise State doesn’t have a respectable game for the remainder of their season. No more courtesy jumps please.

USC really got screwed with Cal’s upset at Oregon. Facing the Golden Bear this Saturday in Berkeley, the Trojans could have used a game against a top-5 ranked Cal team, that would have moved up if they didn’t get serviced. Coming off a humiliating loss to Oregon, look for Cal to give ‘SC their 2nd loss in the last 3 weeks. The Pac-10 is going to be boo boo this year, with the winner having at least 2 losses.

NCAA Football Rankings: USC Drops Like It’s Hot!

We are definitely rolling with the AP poll this week, even though Florida didn’t receive all the first place votes, the AP is more accurate across the board. They rightfully dropped USC out of the top 10 (#12) after the Trojans did their usual thing, losing on the road to a lesser Pac-10 opponent early in the season. But Jake Locker is a beast and Washington has been playing solid this season.

BYU wasn’t as lucky, dropping to #19 after getting their asses handed to them mightily at home by Florida State, which coincidentally makes the “U” (#9) worthy of a top 10 ranking at this point in the season because they served FSU. If Miami wins their next 2 games, they should jump into the top 3, but that’s a big if.

We still AREN’T rolling with Boise State. They looked kinda sloppy against Fresno State and basically have a cake walk the rest of the season, with no more respectable games on the schedule. Even if they win out, their schedule strength should adversely impact their ranking.

NCAA Football Week 2 Rankings: AP vs USA Today

There is no big surprise here, in the top 4 spots in both of the polls you have the top 4 teams: Florida, Texas, USC, and Alabama. Where these other teams are getting first place votes when Florida has been whooping every teams ass by like 50 points we don’t know, but they are tripping.

So which Poll are we rolling with this week, U-S-A all the way baby. Why, because the USA has BYU ranked the lowest. They are 7th in the AP Poll and 9th in the USA Today, right in front of Boise State…the two teams that are going to (f)uck up the BCS this year. So the lower the are right now, the better things will be later.

The biggest news…BYU jumped up 11 spots after beating OU and now they’re sitting pretty at # 9. But we’re not rolling because frankly, they’re not that good There is no way that they would have beaten OU if they would have been at full strength, but it is what it is. At least they put The U at #20 after their great game last night.

The biggest surprise is that the best conference in the land, the SEC, doesn’t have the most teams in the top 25. They’ve got 5 (#1 Florida, #4 Alabama, #6 Mississippi, #11 LSU), but the Big 12 has them beat with 6 (#2 Texas, #5 Oklahoma State, #13 Oklahoma, #22 Nebraska, #24 Kansas, #25 Missouri). Complete rankings here.

We’ll have a comparison between the AP and the Coaches Poll once it’s posted.
