Knicks Interested In Trade For Carmelo Anthony

According to ESPN 1050, the Knicks flagship station, the team is prepared to make the Denver Nuggets an offer for disgruntled forward Carmelo Anthony. Several events, including a botched toast by Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke at Carmelo’s wedding, have contributed to the perennial All-Star’s unwillingness to sign the 3-year 65 million dollar extension that is on the table.
The Nuggets could potentially lose Anthony for nothing in next summer’s free-agency, and still have instability in the front office as we speak. Without an active GM, there are few members of that organization that could be pulling the strings on a deal of this magnitude, and it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that Kroenke is the lead on this deal.
The Knicks are rumored to be offering a first round draft choice, Danilo Gallinari and Eddie Curry’s expiring $11.3 million dollar deal. A little tough to give up on Gallinari, as he’s showed signs that he could be an All-Star caliber forward in the NBA, but he is a valuable bargaining chip when trying to land the NBA’s 4th or 5th best player.

Holler Back: Bball Legend McGuire Chunks The Deuces

Knicks legend and basketball Hall of Famer Dick McGuire passed away Wednesday of natural causes. He was 84 years old. The New York native and brother of legendary Marquette coach Al McGuire spent more than 5 decades with the Knicks organization as a player, coach, scout and eventually in his final role as something like a mentor pimp.
Nicknamed “Tricky Dick” because of his ball-handling abilities (on the court for all of you gutter-minded people out there), McGuire was a 7-time All-Star selection and lead the Knicks to 3 straight finals appearances from 1951-53. Unfortunately his squad could never win the crown, losing to the Rochester Royals in a 7-game series in ‘51, the Minneapolis Lakers in a 7-game series in ‘52 and getting smashed by the old-school Lake Show yet again in 1953. McGuire ended his career with the Pistons where he assumed the role of player-coach during the 1959-60 season, which was the last of his playing career.
McGuire spent an incredible 53 years as a member of the Knicks and is still 3rd all-time on the franchise’s assist list. It could be argued that McGuire dropped more dimes than Hugh Hefner during his career, but Hef definitely got way more nuts.

Last year’s record: 32-50
This year’s projection: 35-47
New Booty’s: Darko Milicic, Jordan Hill, Toney Douglas
Holler Back: Quentin Richardson, Chris Wilcox
One of my favorite songs right now is Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind”, an ode of sorts to the city of New York. One of my least favorite teams to watch or talk about however, are the New York Knicks. Mired in mediocrity the past few seasons, the Knicks won’t be much better this season. Though 2nd year coach Mike D’Antoni has infused new energy and presence into that organization, the players are basically the same– a motley crew of overachieving, undersized role players with no go-to guy.
Saddled with several high-priced and useless contracts, the Knicks had little to no flexibility this offseason to make any major moves. Though they re-signed two important components to their youthful core in David Lee and Nate Robinson, they gave them one-year deals, and both players were not happy about it. Here is the reality: the Knicks are setting themselves up for the summer of 2010, and putting themselves in position to sign either LeBron James, Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade.
