The entire USA soccer team played their final CONCACAF qualifier against Costa Rica with a heavy heart, just days after forward Charlie Davies was involved in a car accident that effectively ended has 2010 World Cup hopes. With a large home crowd in attendance at RFK stadium and the squad already clinching a berth in South Africa, the US squad looked to play the role of spoiler against a Costa Rica team that needed a win to ensure a berth. Trailing 2-1 in stoppage time, Jonathan Bornstein connected on a header that sent the entire stadium (minus Costa Rica and their fans) into a frenzy.
You can bet that they pulled off this one for Charlie and even though it wasn’t technically a win, in the eyes of the nation, it was a job well done.
