Tis Tough: Arenas & Crittenton Suspended For Season

Share/Bookmark

Commissioner David Stern speaks on the season-long suspensions of Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for charges related to studio thuggin’. Both Arenas and Crittenton copped gun cases stemming from a questionable altercation in the Wizards locker room in which both men drew unloaded heaters at each other, after a civil dispute got pretendo gangsterish. Now Arenas forfeits the rest of his cheese for the season and potential his entire contract, and awaits sentencing in March where he will most likely do some time in jail.

Crittenton got off a lot easier, but will still have to go without a check for the remainder of the season, and he isn’t caking anywhere near to Agent Zero, so it’s going to be a cold spring for him.

Gilbert Arenas Responds To Indefinite Suspension

After being indefinitely suspended by NBA Commissioner David Stern for coonery and buffoonery towards a gun-related incident, Gilbert Arenas released a prepared statement through his lawyer:

I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action. I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that.

While I never intended any harm or disrespect to the NBA or anyone else, my gun possession at the Verizon Center and my attempts at humor showed terrible judgment. I take full responsibility for my conduct.

Earlier today, I called Commissioner Stern to apologize, and I hope we will be able to talk soon. I look forward to the day I can return to basketball. In the meantime, I will focus on dealing responsibly with this serious situation and I will continue to cooperate fully with the investigations by law enforcement and NBA authorities.

Arenas will be taking a hit in the man purse as well with this unpaid hiatus, losing nearly 150 stacks for every game his misses during the suspension. That’s what hurts the most in this whole situation and makes the fun and games that Arenas has grown accustom to displaying, a lot less humorous.

Arenas’ intentions may have been good in nature when deciding to turn over his unlicensed weapons to the proper authorities, but his decision to stash the heaters at the Verizon Center have made the block hotter than Tuesdays and Thursdays. Now Arenas may be taking teammate Javaris Crittenton down with him after allegedly admitting to the feds that he did indeed have a loaded weapon during the now infamous locker room dispute over some cheese. Arenas had previously stated that Crittenton did not have a weapon during the incident which was more consistent with joke than a showdown.

Tis Tough: NBA Suspends Gilbert Arenas Indefinitely

The NBA decided to suspend Gilbert Arenas indefinitely as a result of the gun scandal that has plagued the All-star guard and the Wizards the past few weeks. Considering that Arenas could be facing some jail time as result of bringing unlicensed, unloaded weapons to the Verizon center, in violation of League rules, the suspension was understandable. Arenas is currently in the process of meeting with federal investigators to explain the circumstances and some sort of decision on whether or not charges will be filed should be coming soon. NBA Commissioner David Stern released a statement regarding the matter:

Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game … Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA. All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas might be in some do do (not too deep though) after storing a few heaters in his locker at the Verizon Center, where the Wizards play their home games at. Apparently Arenas felt like he no longer needed the weapons at his crib, saying that he wanted to keep them away from his kids. Arenas and his boo just had a daughter a few weeks ago, and he didn’t want to risk the possibility of some stuff going down like on that episode of 90210 when the square shot himself trying to be cool.

Arenas alerted Wizards security about the weapons and promptly turned them over to the proper authorities, but he did violate an NBA rule which forbids players from carrying weapons on league property. Since the guns were registered and were not loaded, Arenas will probably just face a fine, which will most likely be small to him since he is caking. Arenas claims that he was unaware of the rule and attempted to release a statement apologizing but was told not to by league officials.
