Comeback? Brett Favre Undergoes Ankle Surgery

Brett Favre decided to make his next move one Friday, undergoing ankle surgery with the world renown Dr. James Andrews at his institute in Florida. Last month Favre stated that he would probably need to have the surgery on his left ankle in order to play this season, so many are taking his decision to finally go under the knife more than 4 months after the season ended as a sign that he will be rolling with that purple again in 2010. Somewhere Tarvaris Jackson is saltier than the Dead Sea as all signs point to another year of chilling on the sidelines.

Throughout the offseason, Vikings head coach Brad Childress has been very quiet on the subject of Favre’s return. Childress did acknowle that conversations with the 40-year old quarterback are mostly through text messages, on topics having nothing to do with football. Having the surgery now means that Favre should be pretty much good to go come training camp in late July.

Even though Brett Favre tricked off the Vikings Super Bowl, you can’t say that he doesn’t have heart after taking a look at a few pictures of his injured hamstring and ankle suffered during the NFC Championship loss to the New Orleans Saints. Many felt that Favre’s costly pick late in the 4th quarter was idiotic because he could have easily ran for the necessary 5-10 yards to put kicker Ryan Longwell into game-winning field goal range, but his wheel was worse than anyone could have imagined and at that point, running was probably not a legitimate option for the old vet. The interception was still nasty, and has defined his postseason play in recent years, but the Legend should get a pass.
