Holler Back: L.T. & Brian Westbrook Shown The Door

Share/Bookmark

It’s a cold game in the NFL, but it’s only business and sometimes tough (but easy) decisions need to be made to save cheese for the good of the team. Monday it was LaDainian Tomlinson aka the other L.T., released after 9 seasons with the Chargers and Tuesday it was Brian Westbrook, a Philly-area legend since his college days at Villanova getting released after 8 seasons with the Eagles. Both men were known for their versatility and ability to do work and consequently both saw their careers derailed by injury and over-usage.

While on the surface the average square may be convinced that football players make big cheese based on the ridiculous contract numbers that get thrown around, the reality is that the NFL has some of the grimiest contracts in the sporting world. It’s known that beyond what’s guaranteed in the contract everything else really isn’t as most are backloaded with roster bonuses and absurd final year’s of deals that will never be reached, because the deals are non-binding. At any point a team can decided to tell a player to holler back to avoid having to break bread.

That’s why you can never be mad at a player for demanding contract extensions and renegotiations if they feel they have outperformed their deal. In one of the most violent sports in the game players understand that injuries are just an inevitable aspect of football, they are unavoidable like smashing groupies on the road. With a short shelf life you have to get as much cheese as you can get, while you can get it.

Eagles Lose But Vick Is Still A Beast

Mike Vick was easily the Eagles best quarterback during their NFC Wild Card loss to the Cowboys in Big D. Even though he lost a fumble later in the game, Vick came in and did work, throwing this long touchdown pass to rookie Jeremy Maclin. Vick gave the squad early hope, even though it wouldn’t last. The Eagles are going to have a tough decision to make this offseason, do they keep Vick around next season and take the damn near 6 million dollar hit, or let him go elsewhere to dominate? There is a good chance that both Vick and Donovan McNabb won’t be with the team next season.

Brian Dawkins Does Backflip During Pregame Intros

Brian Dawkins is easily one of the biggest legends in NFL history. The hard-hitting safety has made a living out of cracking the shit out of opposing offenses. After 13 solid season in Philly and an unceremonious exit due to the team’s unwillingness to pay the old vet, Dawkins returned to his former home for the first time as an opponent. During the Broncos pregame introductions, Dawkins provided Eagles fans with one of his patented moves to get it going, doing a backflip off the ground before running through the gauntlet.

Dawkins is a beast and one of the main reasons that the Broncos have experienced the success that they have this season. They are one win away from making the playoffs, that may be overshadowed by their 6-0 start and subsequent collapse, which is way more than anyone expected from this team at the beginning of the season.

Vick Picked By Team For Ed Block Courage Award

Everybody does a second chance to make a first impression and even though Michael Vick had to learn the hard way, the former NFL superstar and walking the long road back to redemption. For his contriubtions to the Eagles this season, Vick was selected by his teammates as the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, given annually to a player from each team who exemplifies courage and sportsmanship, in honor of the former Baltimore Colts trainer.

Vick was a unanimous selection by the team and even thought he has played sporadically (RIP Brittany Murphy). He has remained a dangerous threat when on the field, scoring 3 touchdowns this season, 2 coming against his former team the Falcons at the Georgia Dome. Vick has done enough to show that he can still be a starter in this league and will most likely take his services elsewhere next season as there are plenty of teams whose quarterback situations are beyond nasty.

Before Vick served his time he promised to do so saying he had no choice but to repair his image and show his fans that it is possible to change. Animal rights groups have done much to try and salt Vick’s game meanwhile Vick has done much to spread positive messages across America about the dangers of animal cruelty. Even though he has used his celebrity to help campaign against the so-called terrible crimes he committed against pit bull dogs (note: I’m eating a variety of leftover Christmas eve animal all butchered in the name of filling my belly). These organizations have been critical of Vick despite his attempts to do the right thing. Let the legend live and worry about bigger fish. Via Baltimore Sun

Michael Vick’s Finally Getting His Mojo Back

If you don’t roll with Mike Vick, then you’re crazier than a shithouse rat. For Philly, the city that has become the home for embattled superstars from Bad News Virginia, the Vick experiment can be deemed successful, while Iverson’s return to the Sixers is still open to debate. The Eagles have eased Vick into their offensive scheme and have used his capabilities to throw off defenses at random points throughout the game.

Donovan McNabb at least appears to be rolling with the use of Vick, even in goal line situations where a thirst for a TD might cloud one’s vision. Allowing Vick to throw the ball more, will keep opposing defenses confused and when McNabb and Vick are on the field together, the options are unlimited.

With 3 TD in the last 2 games, Vick is going to force the Eagles to make a tough decision next season. Even though Vick has expressed his desire to be a starting quarterback, the Eagles have him by the nuts and his $5 mill salary next season really isn’t that bad considering his potential trade value.

Regardless of what happens next season, the Eagles have a golden opportunity to do something special this year. Currently a game atop the NFC East, the Week 17 showdown at Cowboys Stadium could be the stuff of legend. If the games ends up being for the NFC East title, you can best believe that the Eagles will have something up their sleeve with Vick in mind.

Mike Vick Gives Falcons The Business

A huge Unome! goes out to the Legend Mike Vick, for having his best game of the season at the place he use to call home. Atlanta may not be Vick’s hometown, but it was definitely his adopted city after his time with the Falcons. After being incarcerated for those dogfighting shenanigans and getting booted by Arthur Blank, many thought they would never see Vick dominate in the Georgia Dome again. On Sunday, they found out that this wasn’t going to be the case as the Legend came back to his old stadium and did work, accounting for 2 TD in the Eagles demoralizing victory.

Vick was the first to admit that he was a little nervous coming back to the city that he use to run like numbers, with his legendary #7 still being rocked heavily around town. The initial response to Vick was a solid mix of cheers and boos, that resonated throughout the stadium. But by the time it was said and done, Mike Vick showed flashbacks of his former self and had nearly the entire crowd on their feet cheering him on. Chants of “We Want Vick” could be heard at various points throughout the game, and even though the hometown crowd was sad to see their team take the loss, the respect they showed to their former field general makes your heart flutter.

Spotted: Mike Vick Hollers At Bernard Hopkins Fight

(Damn, Sugar Shane Mosley looks strung out)

Who knew that Mike Vick and Bernard Hopkins were knigs? The Legend, getting ready to face his former team this weekend, took some time out of his schedule to watch Bernard Hopkins defeat Enrique Ornelas by a 12-round unanimous decision in Philly Wednesday. The win was supposed to set up a fight with Roy Jones next year, but after Danny Green got up in Jones’ ass like a wedgie during their fight in Australia, the match is like a fart in the wind now.

LOL: Devin Hester Stars In New Moon

“Devin Hester showing naked ass out their on the fieldĀ for real…”

You know we are rolling with the NOH8 campaign, so we felt it was only right to show you Devin Hester’s cheeks getting exposed, much like the Bears offense, during their Sunday night matchup against the Eagles. This was easily the most hilarious 2 seconds of the day and was definitely the (ass) shot seen around the World. We have to admit that Hester’s cheeks are pretty solid though and he would definitely get some action if he ever lands in prison. Was that gay?

For all you D.I.T.B.A.N.’s and thirsty beezies, check out screenshot of Hester’s bare ass after the jump. Definitely Not Safe For Work or Jerk, unless that’s your thing.
