Tis Tough: McCoy Injured In BCS Championship

After luckily defeating Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship after almost making one of the most boneheaded plays of all time, Colt McCoy was on top of the world, ready to lead to Texas to the BCS Championship. Unfortunately the Longhorns dreams were cut short early in the 1st quarter, during their first drive of the game when McCoy was hit by Alabama lineman Marcell Dareus’ during a designed quarterback run play.

The hit appeared to be pretty routine and McCoy got up like it wasn’t a big deal, but almost immediately ran over to the sideline after losing the feeling in his throwing arm. At that point Longhorns fans knew it was pretty much over.

McCoy’s backup, freshman Garrett Gilbert, shook off some early nastiness and actually had a decent game, bringing Texas to within 3 points late in the 4th quarter. But in the end the ‘Bama defense proved to be just a little bit too much and forced Gilbert to trick off a few key possessions late in the game.

Colt McCoy Has Time Management Issues

Heisman finalist and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy’s argument that he was confident that there was one second remaining in his team’s Big 12 Championship win against Nebraska doesn’t seem too convincing. In this interview he did with ESPN he says he looked up at the clock and there was 11 seconds remaining, so he knew he had time to get off a play that he claims his team normally runs in 12 seconds during practice.

Sounds good except for the fact that when McCoy snapped the ball there was only a shade under 7 seconds remaining, before he scrambled towards the sideline and floated the pass out of bounds as time expired. Even if there was 11 seconds remaining like McCoy claims to have seen, running a play that normally takes a second longer in practice still would have left him a second short. Not that it matters at this point, but McCoy might as well just admit that he got luckier than Seal did when he knocked Heidi Klum.

The Real Natty Game: TCU vs Alabama

For most of the Big 12 Championship game, the legend that is Brent Musburger kept referring to the “BCS chaos” that would be created should Texas lose the game. In our minds, the element of chaos still exists because after their nasty showing against #22 Nebraska, the system needs some re-evaluation. Yes the Big 12 is the shit traditionally, but this year it is down with only 3 ranked teams at the end of the season. Texas has a great football team, but so does TCU and this year the Horned Frogs proved that they were the real deal.

Merely winning the Big 12 shouldn’t have guaranteed the Longhorns a trip to the BCS Championship. Plain and simple, Texas doesn’t deserve to go to the Natty. Even though it appears as the system got it right and put the 2 best teams in the title game, their are 4 undefeated teams left in college football and TCU and Boise State are getting shafted like that one dude in American Me, getting the consolation game in the form of the Fiesta Bowl. The meeting is a huge step for non-BCS schools, but also a pimp slap to the grill as well. The reality is that one of these 2 squads is as equally deserving a shot at Alabama as Texas.

Tis Tough: Stanford Serves USC With A Cherry On Top

Share/Bookmark

Throughout his entire career at USC, Pete Carroll has struggled against the squares from Palo Alto, better known as the Stanford Cardinal. Saturday proved to be no different as Jim Harbaugh’s squad smashed the #9 Trojans in front of a sellout crowd at USC’s homecoming game. The 55 points that Harbaugh’s squad put on the scoreboard, are the most against the Trojans in the school’s history. With 3 losses this season, all in conference, USC has no chance to win the Pac-10 and will most certainly be heading to a nasty Bowl game as a consolation. My how the mighty have fallen. Of the 4 home losses that Carroll has suffered in his tenure, 3 have come at the hands of the Stanford.

Harbaugh felt the need to rub it in a little bit, going for a 2-point conversion late in the game when Stanford was already leading by 27 points. While some have viewed it as classless, we can’t fault the man for trying to put up a 50 burger against the most feared team on the west coast. Harbaugh may never get this opportunity again so he decided to seize the opportunity. You can guarantee that Carroll will have something up his sleeve the next time these 2 teams meet, as this rivalry is turning into a poorman’s Florida-Georgia type situation.
