The Answer Chops Game With John Thompson

You know that John Thompson wasn’t going to go too hard on his former pg, but the interview does address some of the issues that have plagued AI lately. Iverson touches briefly on some of the “baggage” that has followed his lore in the League. It’s hard not to roll with The Answer in this situation though, the Grizzlies are boo booer than them roses Andre 3000 was talking about and regardless of what people want to believe, Iverson still has game like Craig’s dad. He’s not an off the bench type of dude at this point in his career and now he has the platform to prove that he is still relevant.

His debut with Sixers is only a day away, the basketball world will be watching to see if this somewhat bold move will work out for both parties. Either way it will feel good to see AI ballin’ in the Sixers’ new old school uniforms.

In The Face: Frenchy Gets A Taste Of A U.S. Holiday

Even though the Sixers are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference rookie Jrue Holiday has to be ecstatic that he bounced from UCLA after his freshman year cause the Bruins ain’t doing much better. At least Holiday is getting a nice check every 2 weeks to offset the frustration of playing in Philly. Mavericks rookie Rodrigue Beaubois found out what happens to dudes that try to be heroes and get in the way of an easy bucket. In his native Guadeloupe they would say he got merde’d on, but however you say it one thing is for certain, this is definitely a Holiday that he will never forget.

Holler Back: Allen Iverson Announces Retirement

TO ALL OF MY FANS:

I would like to announce my plans to retire from the National Basketball Association. I always thought that when I left the game, it would be because I couldn’t help my team the way that I was accustomed to. However, that is not the case.

I still have tremendous love for the game, the desire to play, and a whole lot left in my tank. I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level.

Stepping away from the game will allow me to spend quality time with my wife and kids. This is a reward that far exceeds anything that I’ve ever achieved on the basketball court. I have prayed for this day and I see it as my greatest gift.

I want to thank the people of Reebok International Ltd., for always allowing me to be me and for supporting me my whole career through all the ups and downs. I have enjoyed 13 wonderful seasons in the NBA, and I am grateful.

I want to first acknowledge my fans everywhere, who have been with me throughout my entire career. Without you, there would be no me. You should all know that I appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

To Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird, you guys gave me the vision to play the game that will be forever in my heart.

To my Mom, who encouraged and inspired me to play every day, and to all of my family and friends who stood by me from the beginning. Thank you!

To my high school coach, Michael Bailey, Coach John Thompson at Georgetown University, Coach Larry Brown and to all of my other coaches, teammates, administrators, owners and staff who’ve been a part of my career, Thank you as well!

I’d like to give a special thanks to the people of Memphis. I never played a home game for your beloved Grizzlies, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the opportunity given me by a great owner in Michael Heisley, and the support of the city. I wish the Memphis Grizzlies’ organization all of the success that the game has to offer.

And finally, to the city of Philadelphia: I have wonderful memories of my days in a Sixers’ uniform. To Philly fans, thank you. Your voice will always be music to my ears.

God Bless all of you,

ALLEN IVERSON

Chaser NBA Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

Share/Bookmark

Last year’s record: 41-41

This year’s projection:36-46

New Booty’s
: Elton Brand (injury), Jason Smith (injury), Jason Kapono, Jrue Holiday, Rodney Carney

Holler Back: Andre Miller, Donyell Marshall, Reggie Evans, Theo Ratliff

The Philadelphia 76ers began this season with a new look. They changed their coach, changed their uniforms and will attempt to change their fortunes in a much improved Atlantic Division. Eddie Jordan takes over the helm for Sixer legend Maurice Cheeks, and the fans in Philly have plenty of reasons to be excited. Elton Brand returns after missing all of last season to injury, renewing optimism for one of the NBA’s most intriguing young teams.

Though they lost point guard Andre Miller in the offseason, the Sixers best player is the athletic freak, Andre Iguodala. Iguodala is an explosive player, and has shown a knack for hitting big shots to win games. At 6′6 with a 7-foot wingspan, he has the length to defend taller players and is a disruptive force out front of the Sixers defense. He has improved his outside shooting and floor game, and is the guy coach Eddie Jordan wants taking the shot with the game on the line.

Losing a solid, experienced veteran like Miller will be a blow, and the Sixers hope Louis Williams can pick up the slack. Williams has been erratic and inconsistent, but has the physical tools to see considerable floor time. He will be expected to run the Sixers show, and must cut down on turnovers and improve his decision-making for the Sixers to make it to the playoffs. Tough to ask for a young guard, and I am not sure he is ready to take on the responsibility.
