Robbie Rogers Becomes First Openly Gay Male To Play in US Pro Sport in Debut With Galaxy
Galaxy winger Robbie Rogers made history fittingly during Memorial Day Weekend, as he became the first openly gay male to play in a U.S. professional sport in the4-0 win over the Sounders.
After initially announcing his retirement from soccer in February and then coming out of the closet, Rogers, aided by Jason Collins decision to become the first active male athlete in a professional team sport to come out, decided to not let his talents go to waste and make his way back onto the pitch.
In the wake of Collins’ announcement, to go along with Brittney Griner becoming the first openly gay female in US pro team sports, Rogers’ groundbreaking return didn’t receive as much attention as it should have, but either way Rogers is still a Legend’s Legend.
Had the pleasure of meeting Rogers a while back, and he’s a cool ass nig, but wasn’t really rolling with him cause he didn’t give me any indications — despite the fact that I’m extremely good-looking.
