#Respect: Dwyane Wade Writes ” R.I.P. Trayvon Martin” on Shoes For Heat-Thunder Game
Heat all-star guard Dwyane Wade had a special message written across his shoes for a Sunday showdown against the West-leading Thunder: R.I.P. Trayvon Martin.
Wade also wrote, “he could be our son,” on his other shoe, acknowledging the fact that Martin is not unlike many black teens that get unfairly categorized based on the outfits they choose to wear.
In the wake of Martin’s slaying, Wade and the Heat along with several other influential members of society, have been using their star power in a positive way to keep bringing attention the injustice of the situation.
The Heat’s tribute to Trayvon Martin has especially touched Martin’s family. In a recent interview with the Associated Press Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s dad, thanked the Heat and other athletes for taking notice of the wrongful death of his son.
Trayvon’s father told the AP, “Trayvon was an excellent athlete and if he could hear them saying his name, he would be so moved by it.”
