NBA Commissioner Adam Silver decided to lay his boom hand down in the first major moment of his brief tenure, hitting Clippers owner Donald Sterling with a lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine for racist comments he made to his then side main boo V. Stiviano about minorities.
Silver received overwhelming praise for his decision, as current and former NBA players as well as notable black people in other sports and professions took to social media to offer him some cyber pats on the back for his swift and stern (no pun intended) decision of lifetime banishment.
The NBA Board of Governors will now try to force Sterling to sell the franchise he purchased in 1981 for about $12 million to a host of thirsty potential buyers including Magic Johnson, David Geffen and Oprah Winfrey to name a few.
For his racist views towards minorities Sterling is being punished with a pay day that could exceed a billion dollars. Must be nice.
