Meb Keflezighi Becomes 1st American Man to Win Boston Marathon Since 1983

Meb Keflezighi Wins Boston Marathon

After the tragic events during last year’s Boston Marathon, Meb Keflezighi proved that he was indeed “Boston Strong,” putting the nation on his back, err, feet and becoming the first American to win the event since 1983 with a personal-best time of 2 hours, 8 mins and 37 seconds.

The 38-year old Keflezighi, a native Eritrean and UCLA alum, shaved more than 30 seconds off of his personal best marathon time, in what had to be one of the most emotional races of his legendary career.

Although Keflezighi did not participate in the 2013 Boston Marathon, he was in the city watching the race when the bombs went off.
