Lakers Finally Get Their Bling Bling
Ring Breakdown: 15-karat gold (in honor of The Show’s 15th Championship), 15 diamonds on the top of the ring in the shape of Staples Center, weighing 2.85 carats like they some vegetarians. The rings also have each player’s face lasered on the side, which is unfortunate if one of them ever goes bankrupt and has to sell it.
The Lake Show opened up the 2009-10 season in grand fashion, finally getting their Championship rings from Commissioner David Stern and also raising their 15th banner in front of a celebrity-filled crowd, including Laker legends like The Logo, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Michael Cooper and Jackson Vahue. All of the players from last year’s championship team, accept for the departed Trevor Ariza, were on hand to receive their bling. The team came out rocking flossy purple warm-up jackets with 15 stars on the back, symbolizing each of the titles the organization has won.
Following the emotional ring ceremony it was back to business as usual as the Lakers served their hometown rivals, the Blake Griffin-less Clippers 99-92. The Lakers are dealing with some injury issues of their own, playing with out All-Star forward Pau Gasol, who is recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered in the preseason. Kobe Bryant lead all scorers with 33 points and also added 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Andrew Bynum came up huge for The Show as well, chipping in 26 points and 13 rebounds in what should be his first of many double-doubles this season.
