(UPDATE: During halftime of the La Salle-Wichita State game Charles Barkley addressed Doug Gottlieb’s comments and went HAM on all the “idiots” on twitter making a big deal about it, which essentially made it a bigger deal.)

Doug Gottlieb is feeling the wrath of the internet, after making some questionable comments during the CBS NCAA Tournament pregame show prior to the Arizona-Ohio State Sweet 16 matchup.

With the rest of the crew made up entirely of African-Americans including: Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Greg Anderson, and Greg Gumbel, Gottlieb made the following remarks about being the only white dude on the crew:

I’m just here to bring diversity to the set, to bring the white man’s perspective on things…”

Gottlieb’s remarks were met with an awkward silence in one of those records-screeching-to-a-halt type of moments as the rest of the dudes try to play it off poorly with silence and the blatant lookaway.

Naturally the twitterverse responded accordingly to Gottlieb, who was quick to defend his comments by dismissing them as a joke:
