After a successful season in the Korean Basketball League, in which he was named League MVP, led his squad to the KBL Finals, and got off one of your more legendary dunks at their All-Star Weekend, Rod Benson has become a phenomenon in the Far East.
As a result, Benson has also experienced firsthand that no matter where you play professionally–thirsty fans exist–sometimes even more thirstier than your thirstiest NBA fan.
Benson shared a recent example of the thirstiness of Korean fans upon his return to the KBL to play for the LG Sakers:
2 Days in and I Already Got A Lengthy Letter and Gift Bag from a Korean fan…And enormous bag filled with snacks, drinks and soap. If you look carefully, she labelled each item with a note describing what it is and how delicious it should be.
Even though Benson played in the KBL last year, the rules regarding American players are interesting to say the least. Every year, Americans have to participate in a combine and KBL Draft, held in Las Vegas–coinciding with NBA Summer League.
I would make fun of the Korean fan’s thirst for Benson but any chick that can write a 2-page letter in another language is either dedicated or crazy/deranged. (Editor’s note: I can’t write shit in Korean)
Considering that Benson’s fan is a chemical engineering major, had to check and make sure that she didn’t pumpfake him and try to set him up for playing with a rival squad this season. But, he tried some of the stuff in the gift bag and said it was decent.
A full transcipt of the thirsty Korean fan’s letter and legendary gift basket filled with muffins and handmade soap, after the jump…
To My favorite basketball player Benson (note: They do that lastname first thingy out there)
Hello Benson? :D My name is Yoon-Jeong Kim’ (note: think that might be a misplaced comma) I’m your fan when I was 19 years old. I’m 20 years old, now. I’m freshman in university named A jou. My school is famous for an institute of technology. My major is chemical engineering I was been a fan when you were in team Dong-Bu I saw you first at the ?? stadium players with Samsung in the stadium you were riding a cycle, you looked so cool and your play is amazing. I was so upset at play-off in An-Yang I was there because I want to see your play and you, so when you were leaved(?) by verdict that makes me sooooooooo sad. When the 2011-2012 season is over you were back to USA
(Part II)
it means you are not it Korea, that makes me really worried. If you don’t attend the new draft, I can not see you and your play forever. But you come to Korea in team LG, I was so glad of that. This is my gift to you for coming back to Korea and play in Korean Basketball League again!!
The muffins and cookies are made by myself. I hope you enjoy that, and snacks are for you either. Please eat all them with you company in LG. At last the soap is made by me it can be used on all skin. Benson. I’m really welcome you! Thank for that I can be your fan again!
P.S. My English is not very well sorry for that!
