Isaiah Austin NBA Draft

After Isaiah Austin learned just days before the NBA Draft that his basketball career was over due to a life-threatening disease, Adam Silver and the NBA pulled one of the classiest moves of all times by allowing Austin to have a lifelong dream fulfilled.

During the 2014 NBA Draft’s 1st round the Commissioner stopped the proceedings to acknowledge Austin and his family, who were chilling in the greenroom with the other draft hopefuls, and then made a special announcement as the NBA drafted Austin and allowed him to walk up to the podium to have his picture taken.

The move is one of many in Silver’s short tenure that has endeared him to basketball fans, and alleviated any concerns that he would be able to fill the shoes of his predecessor David Stern.
