Greg Oden Dunks in 1st Appearance in NBA Game in More Than 4 Years
In what can only be described as a heart-fluttering moment, former number one overall pick Greg Oden made his return to the NBA on Wednesday night, playing in his first regular season game action since December 5, 2009.
The Heat may have lost a battler to the Wizards, but Oden’s return proved far more significant, as the injury-plagued big man was able to do a little work in his 8 minute stint, finishing with 6 points, 2 rebounds and his first dunk in an NBA game in a long, long time.
The uneducated basketball aficionado generally understates the value and importance of big men in the League, without truly understanding what they go through during a basketball career. Along with dudes like Yao Ming, Oden is a prime example of the devastating toll that injury can have, and it is good to see him making strides in the right direction.
