Drake Coaches Kentucky Alumni Basketball Game and Talks Plans to Finish High School
If you ever want an example of why John Calipari is one of the greatest recruiters of all times, then look no further than his legendary relationship with YMCMB Rapper Drake, who served as a coach at UK’s annual Alumni Charity basketball game.
The Calipari-Drake relationship goes back to 2009, when the then 1st year Wildcats coach invited the burgeoning hip-hop superstar to Kentucky’s Midnight Madness–and Calipari has been using Drake to show potential recruits how much swag he has ever since.
Kentucky even gave Drake a custom NCAA championship ring to celebrate the Wildcats’ 2011 championship.
Kentucky boasts 23 players in the NBA right now and most of them headed back to join Coach Calipari and Drake in Lexington to part in the festivities in some capacity to help raise damn near $300,000 for charity.
During a postgame interview, Drake also mentioned how much of an inspiration Coach Cal and Kentucky have been on his life, and the former high school dropout talked about plans of getting his high school degree in the near future.
When you have dude’s as legendary as Drake wanting to be involved with your program, you don’t even really have to get your Blue Chip hustle cracking, cause recruits will respect your swag enough to come and play for no cheese…upfront.
